Kristen Lingenfelter - Track Day at the Oval Ring
Two weeks ago, we hit the road for a weekend of adrenaline and precision driving at the Painesville Speedway in Ohio. It was the perfect setting for some serious autocross action, and my C8 Corvette was more than ready to rise to the challenge.
Outfitted with a fresh set of Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires, the car delivered sharp grip and confident handling all weekend long. The tight layout of the speedway really let the C8 stretch its legs, carving corners with precision and putting its mid-engine platform to good use.
Day One: A Tricky Launch into the Oval
The course on Day One started just outside the main track, with a downhill launch leading directly into the oval. This decline, combined with uneven transitions and multiple angle changes, made for a less-than-ideal start. As the C8 settled through the dip and finally hit smoother pavement, the launch lost some of its punch. It wasn’t the most powerful takeoff, but once the tires found their grip, the run began to open up.
Chasing Times & Securing the Win
We had a total of 14 runs throughout the day, and by the time the afternoon sessions kicked off, I was holding the leading time. With each run, the competition tightened—but I managed to stay consistent and push just a little harder where it counted.
By the end of the day, I secured OFTD (Overall Fastest Time of the Day), finishing ahead of the entire field—men and women alike. It was a huge moment for me, marking only the fourth time I’ve taken the very top spot since I began auto crossing back in 2022.
Day Two: Heat, Precision, and a Strong Finish
Day Two featured the same downhill launch as the day before, but this time the finish line was set close to the wall, which meant braking had to be dialed in with absolute precision. No room for error at the end of each run.
Despite the hot northern temps, the car held up beautifully. The C8 handled with confidence, and the Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires stayed grippy throughout the day—even under the heat.
Sunday turned out to be another highly competitive day, with tight times across the board. But once again, I was able to come out on top, finishing with OFTD (Overall Fastest Time of the Day)—beating the entire field of both men and women.
This marks the fifth time I’ve earned the overall fastest since I started auto crossing, and each one feels just as rewarding. It was the perfect way to wrap up a challenging and unforgettable weekend.
It was a super fun day and the perfect way to cap off a great weekend of autocross. Looking forward to the next one already.
